Winds of Winter Official Update

Winds of Winter update from George R.R. Martin. 7/23/2017

The Swords Are Drawn & The Tears Moist

His artificial lake just got a whole lot bigger..

Yesterday we got some words that a lot of us have been dreading.  George R.R. Martin gave us an update on his new anthology The Book of Swords that will be released on October 10th 2017 and then he lets us know the current status of The Winds of Winter.

The Book of Swords is not exclusive to George so you will get a lot of  other authors works in it as well that have no input from him, just like the “Dangerous Women” anthology. His piece is called “Sons of the Dragon,” which is a chronicle of Aegon the Conquerer’s two sons, Aenys I Targaryen and Maegor the Cruel.

Upcoming work:

Fire and Blood

Release date: TBD (possibly late 2018 or early 2019)

One book we can look forward to is the huge fake history book Fire and Blood. George said it will consist of two volumes because of the sheer amount of material. This book will go into detail on the Targaryen civil war and the Dance of the Dragons.

Winds of Winter

Release date: TBD (possibly late 2018 or early 2019)
We get confirmation that the Winds of Winter will indeed take longer without an exact release date. All hopes of getting both the sixth and seventh book in the near future have been crushed. As confirmed by George:

I’ve seen some truly weird reports about WOW on the internet of late, by ‘journalists’ who make their stories up out of whole cloth. I don’t know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I’ve been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages. Both ‘reports’ are equally false and equally moronic. I am still working on it. -George

The hope has been both strong and non existent with the fan base..

I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that’s all I care to say. Whether WINDS or the first volume of FIRE AND BLOOD will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018… and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream…  -George

So with that we will probably not see the Winds of Winter until late 2018 or early 2019. At least we have season 7 to keep us entertained for a few more weeks. Let’s give George all the time he needs and send him some luck for more good days!

George’s Mood when making his post:

Quixotic: exceedingly idealistic; unrealistic and impractical.
